Falconaround needs CLUTCH INFO

FALCONAROUND

Well-known member
One pivot connector broke off the finger of my 3 finger pressure plate in my Falconaround...

It's a 200 with a 9" clutch and a T-5 behind it and I need to know What vehicle to get a Diaphragm pressure plate out of to put in my rig.

If Anyone has any info simply reply here, I got my notifications setup, and I'll be over at Ford Muscle looking also.

Thanks folks!

I also went to allstangs and found an article where the guy did this swap...

He left out any information that told WHAT APPLICATION the diaphragm clutch came out of!!!

And their site is not allowing me to register to ask a question... :banghead: :banghead:  !

This is my Daily Driver and I need some backup to get her back on the road before my wife get's off the ship tomorrow morning...

Anyone got some info? She needs to be driven again!

I don't recall a 9" clutch option with the T5. Are you referring to the 8.5" flywheel with the recessed plate or the flat 10" flywheel?

if 8.5", the disc is from a mid 80s 4 cylinder T5 mustang. the pressure plate will be from a 65 mustang/falcon with the 3 speed (maybe the 4 speed as well, don't recall if there was a difference, don't think there was).

if 10", you can look for any mid 60- early 70s 250/302 equipped car (mustang, Torino, etc).

This is from very rusty memory, hopefully it is somewhat accurate.

Guys,

I assume you mean 9" flywheel? I used this for my Mustang. I don't know if it will work exactly for your situation, since I don't know what year block you have (I doubt that will make a difference, though).

Try this:

1981 Ford Mustang 3.3L 1BBL OHV Clutch Kit. RHINOPAC Part # 07004

Rockauto has a fantastic price.

OK guy's, my combo is this. 200 I-6, 69 block.

I put all this in last year, T-5 mated, 9" CLUTCH & PRESSURE PLATE in the car now off what I was told was 67 Stang 200 car.

None of that matters if I cant find me a pressure plate diaphragm style and TO bearing that will fit it locally...

I have a spare 3 finger handy but would rather upgrade while it's off and broken. 88 Turbo T-bird and 84-86 SVO 2.3L mustang 5 speed car's have the 9" That I just found out only about 5 minutes ago...

The pissing me off part is the suppliers here don't have a new PP for my 3 finger, and NOBODY has the Diaphragm style in stock either! GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

I'll check on the one you posted mysavior (heheheh what a coinkydink) and hope it pays out!

These are the car's and engines it will fit as a PP assy alone...

But NOBODY in the state has one in stock.... Ridiculous! :banghead: :devilish:

Try http://www.rockauto.com . I found the following:

1986 FORD AEROSTAR 2.8L 171cid V6 2BBL (S) OHV : Clutch : Clutch Kit
BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0616135
DIAMETER INCHES 8-7/8"; SPLINE DIAMETER 1; # OF SPLINES 23 Splines; DIAMETER MM 225mm [Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty]
$58.79

I've purchased a few items from this site, and have been satisfied with the parts.

Hope this helps.

I'm assuming you have the 9" flat flywheel, the only other real possibility is that you have the 8.5" recessed flywheel (as mentioned). Should be easy enough to tell them apart, but here's a couple pics that might help.

Assuming that you have the 9" flat flywheel, then you want a clutch from a '79-82 Ford Passenger Car with a 3.3l, those will be diaphragm style (67-77 or 78 should be the old 3 finger style...although I have seen some diaphragm styles sold in the older kits...suppliers must be running out of reman'd 3 finger pp's).

I don't know if the 2.3l setup will work in place of a 3.3l set, but according to this Ram Clutch application they are not the same part number at least (although I realize some of their specs are close if not the same):
http://www.ramclutches.com/Applications/ford_1.htm

The specs on the Ram page are correct (see Mustang 6cyl 79-82 on the Ram app page above), you want a disc that is 9" or 9-1/16" in diameter, but more importantly it must be a 1-1/16" shaft size with a 10 spline count.
As far as local availability, sorry I cannot help you there. Note a 79-82 kit will come with a cable style TO that won't work on the old TO fork.
One last thing is to opt for a disc with more than 4 springs...some of the cheaper sets like the Ram version I used (#88727) have only 4 springs which don't have the same clamping force and will allow more chatter and less longevity.
Good luck!

Thanks FOlks.

The only 2.3 clutch cover that fit's is the 5 speed SVO turbo.

My major issue was that I wanted it yesterday and there was none to be had within 66,582 square miles... That's the whole state :)

Anyway, I took an old 3 finger apart and replaced the broken part out of it but did not get the shims correct and the fingers aren't level and now the TO bearing wobbles and makes noise... UG!

Getting the entire diaphragm replacement kit from Oreilly's for $112.00 and replacing it after Christmas. :D
