ok -so my 170 six has a loadomatic distributor .

had the timing light on checking ignition timing - set it to 14 deg at idle(vac disconnected).

thought i would check it at full advance (cionencted vac line)- gave the ngine a blip - it went to approx 28 deg.

hmm not as muchas i thought . then had a thought ;

without a load (as its in neutral) when i blip the throttle - shoul i see full adavance ?
ie does a no load engine see enough airflow thru the carb to give the correct vac reading ?

if it doesnt see enough airflow - how do you check for full adavance ?

or am i seeing full advance and need to do something ?

Looking through my 1960-62 + '63 Falcon manual , the maximum LOA advance [varied with which engine , year , etc.] above the static setting is 16 1/2* @ 2500 rpm tested on a distributor machine . So your 28* is about max for an LOA distributor .

its a bit dodgy, but you could always suck on the vacuum hose at idle and see what total you get.
small vacuum pump would be better.

thanks - wont go to the trouble of a vac pump .

was jsut wondering if i should see full adavnce as the 28 deg seemed low - (should be about 34?)

be better of getting a centrifugal advance dist and putting that in

some of the LOM dissy have an adjustable diaphragm that varies total advance. small allen key in the side I think.

depends on what carb you have, but I would chuck the LOM in the bin.
