Greetings Ford Six Fans,

I have a '74 250 / 157 tooth, 10.5" bolt pattern flexplate / Case fill C-4 combo for which I need to find a starter. Understand from this forum that any SBF starter will do. Would like a mini starter, for extra header clearance, if possible.

Anyone has a recommendation for a brand/model they have had good luck with? Durability?

Thanks

8) ford has a good mini starter, as does mean green industries, and power master.

Any later SBF "Mustang" stater should fit. The Ford application "mini" starter is standard OEM after @ 1990 and is generically called a PMGR starter or permanent magnet gear reduction strter ... '

I have a re-used 1990's SBF OEM application starter on my US D7xx 250 with a C5DA BH and 157 tooth SBF FW.

There are two starter-gear nose length differences listed from @ 65 to 90's, (3267/3268), mine is same as most early standard BH's and all Auto's (?). Compare your existing application old starter type with PMGR to be sure..

the PMGR actually has less gear teeth but is offset for mesh...

We use a starter from a 3.8L Mustang V6 ,'94-'98 are the years I think. Bolts right up and weighs 8lbs. less than a "standard" one.

Later,
Will
