Head Gasket Replacment ?

Im changing the head gasket on a 1961 223 ci and i was wanting to know if there is a drain plug located on the block to drain all the coolant out? and 1 more question didnt ford put dowl guide pins in this engine to line up the head ?

John...there is one drain plug...but a number of things that will drain coolant out:

the actual drain is on the radiator:

The temperature sending unit will drain as well...but if all you want to do is replace the head gasket...it is easiest to drain from the radiator.

On the passenger side of the block there should be a 1/4 NPT plug which will also drain the block, but like Cobra said, the radiator drain cock works very well and is often easier to access.
