Fuel Line Questions

I've been tinkering around with my fuel lines and I have a couple of questions.
1. I've noticed many are running their fuel lines around the front of the valve cover to the carb. Is there an advantage to this?

2. I was thinking of using 3/8 steel brake line for my fuel line. Can anyone think of any reason not to do this?

Most original sixes thru late 60's had the fuel line around front of VC from factory with the heat soak inverted-U before the carb in cooler air. 3/8 tubing is fine but all the original fittings will be for 5/16 flare - easily available with stock length brake lines/parts. If you're into' the fuel lines, it may be a good idea to add accessible fuel filters before/after pump.

Powerband, wow. I always wondered just why the line made that arch over the snorkel of the air cleaner. Thanks.
