Warped Flywheel? '63 Mercury 170ci

I have a 1963 Mercury comet with a 170, and a 2 speed auto merc-o-matic tranny. When I start the car, a distinct "wub-wub-wub" increases in volume and frequency until I let off the starter. After that, the car shakes more than usual at idle. When accelerating, it kind of feels like a bump that becomes more frequent with higher RPMs until it shifts, and is more noticeable when accelerating quickly (hah). it's just been happening within the past 2 weeks and hasn't been noticeable prior. Is it a warped flywheel? Bent starter? Do I need a tranny rebuild? Or is it as simple as a dirty air filter?

Probably a cracked flexplate.
Remember the flexplate bolts go through the crankshaft flange & are exposed to oil. so they need sealer on them.
If you have access to the nose of the converter where is slides into the crankshaft, put some lube there cause there is fore & aft movement every time you accelerate.
