I ended up with an extra 3/8ish freeze plug. I have no idea were it would go on the 250 block. Could it be an oil galley plug for an earlier application? Don't want to put the motor in to find out it goes somewhere important. I do have the threaded plugs installed in the oil galley that goes through all the lifter bores.

144 170 200 use that plug at front oil galley .
Thanks. I was thinking that. I took it off the engine stand and installed most of the other pieces. Filled the oil and installed a temporary oil pressure gauge. Spun the oil pump with a drill and got 45 psi and no leaks. The engine is now sitting on the mounts with a couple bellhousing bolts tight. I will button up the rest today after work and do initial cam break in tomorrow.
