Carb Linkage

I have just rebuilt a 200 CI for a 66 mustang according to Classic inlines " building a street motor". Its going to be a problem connecting the original gas pedal linkage to the new carb (weber 32/36 progressive) it looks like the headers will be in the way of the linkage. The gas pedal moves an "L" shape bar up and down when you push on the pedal and will now hit the headers. Does anyone know of a modification to solve this problem? Pictures would be helpful if anyone might have some. Thanks

That carb bar is generally called a Z-bar. You will need to bend the arm over the headers down lower. Mark the bar just back of the header array. Then take the bar off the mounting. Clamp it into a vise and then heat the z-bar at the mark with a propane torch until it glows. With a pipe, pull it down about 20* or so. That will cause the bar to bend enough to get over the header pipes.

Now the pedal will be too low to the floor. Put the z-bar back in the car. Estimate how far up it needs to come, clamp it again, heat it at the first bend after the pedal and pull it up however far you think it needs to go.

Sounds hard. It's not. Just needs a little feel and possibly a couple goes at the process.

Alternatively, you could get a throttle cable, which is more direct but more expensive.

Should look like this when you are done:

Another view. BTW, I had to pull up on the pedal a few times in the car before it was the right height.
