Exhaust Setup!

Hey all,

Definitely considering a new exhaust system for my 66 Mustang. Not too sure about muffler choices/crossover pipes and those details yet. Feel free to post anything 200ci or 250ci exhaust related. Parts, pictures, videos, sound clips, etc. Just trying to get a nice collection to help figure it all out. If there are posts already in existence on here for this topic, (there probably are, although a quick search didn't show much) feel free to send me a link! Thanks a bunch.

'66 Mustang, stock engine.
Installed a single header from cjpony parts, replaced stock exhaust with a 2" pipe, flowmaster 40. Great sound at idle and low-mid rpms, However I noticed an annoying drone sound at mid and high rpms. I installed a resonator between muffler and tail pipe. Drone is gone. Not as loud as before, but I still get a good sound.
I bought a dual header from the CI remaining inventory. This is my next project: dual header, x-pipe, 1.75" exhaust pipes, dynomax turbo mufflers.
Looking forward for other people's opinions.

I kept it simple on dual out header exhaust on my two cars and very satisfied. Typical available pipe and pre-bent connections are most common 2" , 2" SS band clamps allow easy R&R , added reasonable sounding (and priced) Smithy' long silencers exiting ahead of rear wheels. ...

... flex pipes are a good idea, especially if 250 six power is used 8)

.. preferred stock muffler sound (X2) for the daily driver '63 Wagon:

Either xhaust could have over the axle bends added for more stock appearance.

Nice clean system. The resonators are a lot easier than an X pipe.

I've never seen long tube headers for the 200/250 before (i don't think). Does anyone know how well the "midlength" headers fit with stock starters?

I never had any success with a single exhaust using a Flowmaster with any size exhaust. At certain speeds it sounds much the same as the sound of blowing across a coke bottle. A resonator helps.

Best sounding to me are duals with turbo mufflers or perforated glass packs. No crossovers or x-pipes. A stock 2" replacement V8 system tied to your headers is an economical choice for a Mustang.
