Camshaft and dizzy mesh issue.

Before I put the lifters in I wanted to check the distributor to insure I could get it in. Glad I did.
Camshaft (comp 260) and distributor drive gears won't mesh right.
To insure I wasn't missing something I check with out the oil pump as well.
And the old cam.
I checked using my original, and my ds2 from wsa111.
Both fit in block with no camshaft.
Both fit with old camshaft.
Neither will fit with new camshaft.

Called both Summit(supplier)and comp(manufacturer). Both said it sounded like a manufacturing error.

Replacement cam is being sent. Old cam will be picked up Friday for warranty .

Any other tips and tricks for me to try. I'm lost.

i agree that it sounds like a manufacturing error. when you get the new cam, check the fit of the gears before you install the cam, and of course afterwards as well.

Did you ever run the distributor with the old camshaft?? If so how did the distributor look???
What is the engraved # on the bottom of your distributor??
Keep me advised, by PM or Email, Bill

numbers on the bottom of my dizzy.
New, warenty camshaft arrived. slide in just fine. dropped the dizzy in with out any fuss.
im guessing when the old comps cam dizzy gear was cut that the cutting tool was not indexed properly and the gear was not cut deap enough leaving the tooth being to shallow and to wide.

new cam has a narrower tooth, much like my original.

Sounds like Comp. Their final machining and quality control seems to be really lacking these days. Glad the new one went together well.

Thats great news, cause i have sold many distributors with the hardened gear.
I still have one for sale in the small six for sale section of the forum.
