9" clutch recommendation

Hello,

can anyone recommend, which clutch to buy for my 200 cui with 9" flywheel and 4 speed toploader trans?
Right now I have a 9" Sachs clutch in which is very stiff and snaps back quite hard at the point of engagement.
The current Sachs is a diaphragm clutch.
The 8.5" 3 finger clutch with the previous stock motor and the 2.77 trans was very soft, like on modern cars. I like to get that back, if possible.

Btw, the clutch return spring is still in, without it, the pedal doesn't come back full.

There are several clutches in the market, diaphragm and 3 finger style. I simply don't know which one to buy.

Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Joerg

Hi, next on my list is to get a clutch. I am very interested in this thread.
I have to pull the engine first because it may be 9" or 9 3/8".
One clutch I found sounds good. Summit has
PFT MU 578-1. 9" Ford clutch.
It was recommended by a guy who really likes it.
Good luck

The Centerforce in my Bronco has light pedal effort and a good feel.

"... light pedal effort and a good feel."
3 fingered or diphramic?

Thanks so far!

In the Summit shop, I see two clutch kits which meets the specs:
- Perfection Clutch MU578-1 (3 finger type, mentioned by BRONCO)
- Perfection Clutch MU11-1 (diaphragm type).
In theory, the diaphragm type should be lighter in pedal effort. But I doubt that this is always true.
Any experiances with these clutches?

I do not see a Centerforce 9" clutch for Ford 200 cui engines.
The offered Centerforce DF228035 at Summit appears not to fit, although it is close to the spec.
In the Q&A section I found: "The Centerforce DF228035 clutch kit will not fit your Ford 200 inline 6-cylinder engine". Does anybody have this clutch in a 200 cui engine?

Cheers

Hi, if you guys remember if the clutch is 9" or 9 3/8" please say so. Also if you remember where you got it that would be a big help.
The problem with the Centerforce clutch may be (not sure, but it looks like) the spread of the pressure plate bolts. I bet one of the guys here will know if the newer 4 cylinder clutch will bolt on. There are at least three critical things. Input shaft diameter and spline count, clutch diameter and pressure plate bolt pattern. Thanks, good luck

B RON,

just to add a twist:
I 'cut down' a clutch to fit.
Everything wuz right but the:
", clutch diameter..."
put it on a 'center' (lathe, bridgeport, drill press) spun it & had at the edge (gingerly) w/a 4.5 inch grinder.
It wuz just 1/2 over sz but fits now.

Wuz gettin a lill frustrated to find a ford/heep for my frankenstine in sig below.

I did a small research in some local and US part stores, almost everywhere I see the Perfection MU578-1 as the only clutch kit for Ford 200 cui, 9" flywheel, 1 1/16 input shaft, 10 spline.

Can anyone give feedback on how this kit feels and performs?
Is there any other kit out there to pay attention to?

Cheers
Joerg

i think I used something like this in the bronk (170 ci)

https://www.autozone.com/drivetrain/clu ... 21818_5233

and this

https://www.autozone.com/drivetrain/clu ... 121_217903

to good results.
I can't cite the exact model but wrked @ the company (nother 10 - 20% off), liked the price & found it durable. I don't C a need 2 go to the big name (like CenterForce).
The 1 I trimmed (4 the 250/NV3550 conversion) wuz a duralast for a dodge (rite spline count) & wrks to good-excellent benefit. My .02 cents

Yes the Centerforce is diaphram and it was purchased along with my NV3550 install kit from AA and it has been several years ago. Seems like since the 200 was more common the Centerforce would be available. Did you contact Centerforce? Was there a clutch company called LUK? that had a diaphram clutch for the ford six?

For daily Driver use, the later application (Granada, Fairmont etc) application diaphragm Disc and PP will work fine but early Bellhouses will require earlier THROW OUT BEARING because Faimont/Mustang etc used Cable clutch with different TO bg.
... here's an inexpensive option if you have a 170/200/250 with Toploader 3.03 or similar later setup for @ $115.oo plus price of toploader type TO bg:

TO Bearing:

for HP applications there is the weighted CenterForce clutch for 170/200/250 Toploader type six drivetrain:

have fun

I think those are 10" powerband. I dont believe 200s take 10" ones. That was the prob when i tried getting a nice clutch for my 200

there's a buncha different clutches i'll fit. The bell determines (& the presser plate but that can change w/in the bell).
Probably 1 reason U had some difficulty.
clutch frm 8 all the way to 11 inches I think...
