Did I Just Screw Up?

Hi Folks,

I rebuilt my adjustable rocker assembly. New shaft (old one was very worn), removed all adjuster nuts and cleaned all oil passages. Also drilled out the valve oil passage to the handbook specs.

I was sharing this with another FordSix member who said the adjuster nuts are never to be removed all the way as they used a tapered locking thread. I always understood it as they were just interference fit. Did I just screw myself by trying to clean everything good and removing the nuts? I had to remove and replace one due to severe wear on the ball on the adjuster nut anyway.

Someone please tell me I didn’t mess up! Or if I did, it’s not that bad...

Cheers,
Matthew

Howdy Matthew:

That's a new one on me. To the best of my knowledge they are interference fit, but that could mean a "tapered locking thread" also. Any way, I can't see what difference it would make to remove them so long as you can get them started back into the rocker arm. Also, don't use a thread cutter to clean out the threads. If I'm missing something please share.

Thanks for the info. I'll do some more checking too.

Adios, David
