I just bought a 1963 Ranchero with a 250 and a carter 2 brl carb . It has a cold air intake That I really do not like and previous owner says a regular air cleaner is too tall. I would like something that looks more period correct. Chrome is ok but cold air is to new for me . THANKS!!!

Mount a remote air cleaner via a hose toward the front of the engine compartment.
Check with Matt at vintageinlines & see what he has.
Summit also has many kits.
Other members could post a photo of their combo.

The early 'roundbody cars' like '63 have hood clearance issues with a typical 250 installed to clear the center link/oil pan, most carbs should be able to use a modified low clearance type air cleaner. An excellent OEM choice for mild modification to fit low clearance is the Maverick six air cleaner from a 200 with Carter YF one barrel. The round or the triangular shaped generic 4Bbl type can also simply be modified by flipping or adapting the lower plate to your carb. I used the altered OEM Maverick Air cleaner on a 61 / 250 with a Holley /Weber 2 Bbl on top of a generic 2X1 adapter to fit under the hood.

the Mav 'drop base' is the most stock & period correct lookin I can think of.
Never own a 60s/70 ford B4? They have "a low hood".
Modding the bottom 'pan' of the AC can help adapt many
other Y/M/M ac housings to fit.
What Carter 2v do U have?
Some like several holleys, webers & a H/W for the 2v.
I have 6 - 8 mods to "rase the hood" but my 1st suggestion is to
find an ac & carb that R low (Autoilite 1100 or RBS w/this Mav.'can').
