Hillborn Injection

I saw this vintage Hillborn Injection while looking for ideas.
I don’t know how rare it is.
I think it would make a good start for EFI conversion.

That set up is made for the early small Ford six'es 144, 170, 200, (fits the heads made from 1960 to roughly 1968). These six'es all have a log intake that is part of the head, than that would have been cut off to use that Hillborn intake. (y)

I once owned an Algon fuel injection system that had a one-piece casting specifically for the Ford 240/300 so I know they are out there. The problem was the ports were too small for a race engine - I think the stacks were 1 5/8" Diameter - but it may be perfect for a street application, if you could unearth one.

Was it this set up for alky injection? I was thinking the small six had a shared exhaust port.

Mods, please move this thread to the small six forum.

mommie wuz a dirt track speedster, Max!!!

Like ta C what went on the other sidesa those stacks.
That car wuz photoed 2 hrs frm Lebanon Valley where we drag a 750 HP '80 Toy. Starlet.

The “Falcon Six” was popular in midgets in the northeast. Then 1/2 V8’s took over...
I was going to races in later 70’s when the sixes and 1/2 V8 were both competing.
What threw me off on the manifold is that it’s flat. I did more reading and it seems another plate gets attached to the head

There are quite a few photos of midgets with sixes in various racing history websites. The second photo has both the Falcon Six and the 1/2 SBC V8.

I C the i6 in the pink rig. Must B a warm race in thatun!
Never heard of the "1/2 bent8". U saying one would race w/a6 and a 1/2 8 - powering a single vehicle?

I guess I should take back my comment: "dirt track speedster". It looks like these were asphalt tracks?

Love more info on the Subject Line "Hillborn Injection". Remember them, like 2 C 1 adapted to the falcon motor.

The blue car behind the pink one has the 1/2 V8. You can see the Chevy header config. A company called SESCO made them. There were half Ford V8’s too. It just made an inline four that could use popular racing parts.
I think they all used (incl the falcon) mechanical stack injection and ran on alcohol.

These are all asphalt cars in the northeast. I used to see them at Stafford speedway and other tracks.

the Sprint Cars were hillarious, goin round the track, dirt flyin, full drifts @ each end.
Never saw these. Wonder where they varied mechanically.

this is the Hilborn? So 'corn juice' under 30# pressure? Sounds like just drags?

Yes after the log intake was cut or machined off the Falcon head a flat plate was then fabricated and welded or braised onto the intake ports. Besides those Midgets I have seen these Hillborns used on 144 six'es in small racing boats, and also used at the drags too "in rails / dragsters". Yes the small six head has a Siamese center exhaust a simple part is made to fit and convert it to individual ports. The Hillborns can be set to run on Alcohol or Gas just by changing the pills, and injectors, I ran a set on my Ford 427 SOHC engine in early 1970's took the setup to Hillborns shop in SoCal and had it flowed. saw alota the race boat 200ci on the Chesapeake Bay (late 50s into the 60s). Never the Hilborn.

Any 1 have a pic of what was on the 'injection end' of those stacks?

It’s simple stuff.

The top photo in my first post, you see a nozzle with hose attached, in each throttle body just below the butterfly.

The stack on top (not in either photo) is to tune the length of intake.

In the second photo, the rusty block in the middle contains the barrel valve. That’s connected by linkage to the throttles. More throttle, more fuel.

A belt or shaft driven pump supplies the fuel. Rich or lean is controlled by return restriction and bypass.

Mechanical injection is very powerful and brutally responsive. It’s just Not workable on the street.

However, converting them to EFI is possible and makes a cool Retro look.

so the 6 (what I call) stacks (darker grey) - connected by butterflys' linkage, would just have
an ail filerer on them (opposite or top end). I C. The real deal is the 'rusty box'...mechanical FI...
OK, track, yes.

I think they made a super charger too (seems like some other induction system as well, beside this).
It's been awhile. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
