When did the 170 engine get the 5/16" oil pump shaft?. Early 64 or was it phased in at a certain production date????
67 mustang,C-4, with mod. 80 hd, custom 500 cfm carb with annular boosters, hooker headers, dual exh.-X pipe, flowmaster mufflers, DSII dist. MSD-6al & TFI Coil. Engine 205" .030" over with offset ground crank & 1.65 roller rockers. 9.5 comp., Isky 262 cam.

As I understand it, with the C5 block they were 5/16"
It ain't gonna fix itself

I thought if U went '65 U were 'all set'…
(?more of 'the empty box' method, even 4 blocks?)

I had a C4DE in my '64 futura that was 1/4". I don't think you can count on 5/16' until well into '65.

it was a running change in 1964. the early 64s had the 1/4" the later ones had the 5/16" shafts. i have an early one. as to when the changes over began, i a not sure, i dont think even ford is sure.
