Should I Use a Billet Flywheel?

Howdy Guys,

So I'm just about done gathering everything I need for the T5 swap, I bought a modern driveline dual friction diaphram 9" clutch and billet flywheel for the cost of just the clutch. They're balanced together as well. But should I run the billet flywheel or the stock flywheel with my current setup?

4cyl turbo T5 4.03 1st and .81 5th
2.8 8" rear
P215 tires (soon to be P225)

The engine will be beefed a bit too with the 2V 1980 head, 1.5" exhaust valve, dual out VI headers 2" pipes, and a 256/256 .420 lift 112 lobe sep.

I have heard I should have a stock flywheel with the 2.8 rear, but i figured the extra engine mods might help with it.

Opinions?

Thanks
Ryan

Since its already balanced, there isn't any reason you shouldn't go ahead and use it.

Looks good Star.
Can you show us the back side ?
I have not seen a 200 flywheel come apart, the billet it is a smart thing to do.
I have typed about this before,I had two oem strong tuff man pressure plates come apart...No part of the pp or the bell housing found larger than 1'', blew off block and trans mounts, cut off the starter nose, severed one header tube, put cuts in floor...this happened at the 7000 range...No good rev limiters at that time.

Yeah I'll post a back side picture probably tomorrow night!

Thats nuts man, thats why they invented the scatter shield lol. But no one makes one for our engines right?

Modern driveline mentions one in the section on cable clutch conversions (Quicktime MD-401-8050) but I can't find it for sale.

See Ya,
Mike

I think that materials are better today, and with a hyd. cam it will not rev high enough to be a problem ... Rev limiters are cheap enough no reason not to have the added safety.
I think that you will be fine.

Mike-

for the Quicktime MD-401-8050 -

Modern Driveline sez:
"...250 motor

Desired transmission: T5z Drive '93 or earlier, Ford Motorsport

Note: the requested bell, MD-401-8050 with either a 7 or 9 o'clock for position is available but will not fit the above block.

This quote is based on using the existing bell housing with an adapter, the 157 tooth 10" clutch pattern flywheel. and mechanical clutch linkage. Hydraulic clutch release is available.

T-5z, 93 and earlier, Ford motorsport
2.95, 1.94,1.34,1, .63 od mechanical speedo (Torque rated for 330ft/lbs, 1 year warranty from the date of use)

Its hard to find anything on their site, but somehow I found a quick time for a 200 high mount 136 t flywheel with a MD 401-4050 part number at 768.95 $

Ouch! I am glad I don't need one, I like trying to do stuff cheap myself

I got a deal on mine. With their dual friction clutch, diaphram style, and all mounting hardware, + flywheel, all balanced together, cost me $360. I made out like a bandit

Don't forget to put sealer on the bolts to flywheel to crank threads.
