200 Deck Clearance

Hello all,

I’m tearing down my inline 200 and I’ve come across something a bit interesting... I measured the deck clearance and came up with .040

As far as I know, stock should be .019, I’m stumped. Pistons are NP275.

Can anyone explain how this may be?

Thanks,
Sean

"...explain how this may be? ..."
incorrect method of determining? IDK...

Aftermarket pistons have lower pin height than stock. They do that to compensate for decking i suppose.

The replacement pistons usually have a CD of 1.500" and the stock block if it hasn't been decked can be a few thousands higher than spec.

Howdy Sean:

Did you measure the deck height on this engine before you tore down? Always a good Idea. Stock 200 blocks deck height typically measure around .025". Replacement pistons are down .005" to compensate for machining to true the block.

Adios, David
