Ford 200 with Aussie crossflow

Hi all,

I have aquired a 200 out of a 67 Falcon that I am building up for an install into an MGA.

I don’t have any experience with small Ford six engines, but I have rebuilt many VW, MG and Chrysler V8’s and motorcycle engines over the years. The 200 that I have has been completely tore down and ready to be machined and modified to accept the crossflow head. I am really at the beginning stage of all this, but I wanted to know what kind of power I can expect. Mostly for planning purposes as I need to know if my rear end can handle the power. I know there are a ton of variables here. I’ll add what I know for now. Just looking for an educated guess. So stock 200 internals apart from a mild performance cam. Stock crossflow head, stock compression which I think is 9.5:1.

My plan is to make this engine appear to look like a British Ford so looking to install a triple SU carb setup possibly HS6 carbs. Exhaust will be a header, no idea on diameter of exhaust pipe at this time.

Wanting close to 200HP and 275lbft of Torque. I see on the home page there is a picture of an SU carb intake With triple SU’s. Is that a custom intake manifold or something than can be purchased.

Ask any questions you like? And thanks for any help.

jack(i forget his user name) built a 200 with the crossflow head for a locost roadster he also built. there is a tech article on what needs to be done to adapt the crossflow head to the american block. it isnt all that hard, but it is fairly detail oriented, and requires a cam for the crossflow since the valve arraingement is changed from the original 200 design. here is a link to the article;

study it carefully.

I think the only SU carb intakes made for some of the Ford inline six'es (like a 2V Aussie Head) are made over in Australia not sure if one was ever made for a crossflow though. Aussie Speed is one company that does make two carb intakes and a Supercharger intake for the crossflow engines (see below links for more info), and if you can't find the SU type intake. Or you might have to make the intake or adapt an SU intake from another Ford six engine. Best of luck in the hunt (y) :nod:

rather than a 10Thous mi trip I'm wondering if some 1 'right there at home' mght not B of help? On my search for
'one carb per cylinder' I found several Brits doing so on UK motors:

Aussiespeed is made directly for that app and perhaps the 4 in this post can help? I often "go global" (net search) "to find local". When syimied I all ways ask "Oh, you can not. Do you know any one who can?" and this keeps the chain toward success open when often looking at a seeming dead end. Keep in touch, we're interested & also can offer some help. Cheers!
