Looking for a rear window switch bezel

Post #1 by '61 Draggin Wagon » Fri Apr 02, 2004 1:44 pm

Hi all,
I'm looking for the chromed potmetal bezel that holds the key lock cylinder for the power tailgate window on my '61 Deluxe wagon. I just scrounged a complete power window setup from a '62 Squire, but the bezel is shot. Really nice used, NOS or good rechromable is what I'm looking for. And, who has the rubber pad that goes under the bezel?
Also: on the '62 Squires, was the woodgrain "printed" on? This one seems to not have vinyl stickers between the woodie mouldings.... How tough are the "Squire" nameplates to get?
Thanks,
Darryl

The insert was a laminate style paper. It is expensive and very hard to get but looks excellent restored. Getting back to the squires. If memoryserves me correctly, i have seen several squires withoutthe woodgrain paper on hte. they may have been taken off in the past, which i highly suspect

The bezel is hard as heck to find NOS. I finally got one this weekend and have been looking fore two years.

Will hunt down the parts.

I found a NOS ornament(crest?) with the red/white & blue insert, a number of years ago. It was spendy, then. And boy does it look nice! But I need the round bezel that holds the key for the power tailgate switch on the 'gate. This mounts where the hand crank handle goes.
BTW, the crest insert from a '61 sedan trunklid will fit the tailgate ornament potmetal. Did this long ago w/my old pitted ornament.
Thanks,
Darryl
P.S. this squire appears that it was never repainted. I'll have to study the other Squire in the yard for signs of whether its a printed or glued on pattern

You are very corrcet on that tailgate emblem. I had 2 of them new a few years ago at the falcon nationals.. Had a alot of interest in them, They really looked good. The same guy ended up buying both. The car one was also very expensive at the time and i had not found one yet. A while back, there was a car one on ebay. It sold. Then the seller put another on there. Long story short, he has had about 8 car ones on there and it is now being reproduced. The car one looks real good I believe but they have not decided if they will make the wagon one. I saw the first one as they were ready to put it on the market.

will keep lookin for a nice bezel. Have a person i will try..

Anyone know of a source for the rubber behind the switch bezel?

Looks like we got us an informal Falcon wagon thread! I found a complete power tailgate in Mesa,AZ a few years back. Snatched up all the parts including the bezel. Mines not in great shape but I think I can have it rechromed and somewhat repaired. Is yours too far gone?
I also found the power motor wasn't working but it was simply a torsional spring that kept the brush on the armature that had corroded. Two minute fix and she's ready to go for another 40 years. I think that's why I got the whole setup for $150.

If you need any tailgate parts I have 1.5 spare tailgates. Let me know so we can work out a trade.

Do you know if it's same as the seal under the crank handle I mean the stock one?

Found a plumbing "washer" about the correct size. Just recently put it on. Looks good but it is a little too thick and the lock cylinder tab just barely engages the switch so i am not sure it will be the "final" answer.

Sent my bezel off to be repaired and re-chromed. Can't wait to get it back!! It's the centerpiece of the car as far as I'm concerned! I'll post pics when I get it.

Anyone running the "Falcon Squire" trim on the side?
