Will a '62 Front Clip Fit On a '61?

Post #1 by stu in wichita » Thu Dec 17, 2009 10:44 pm

I have a '61 Ranchero that I saved from the crusher. I ran across a front clip from a '62 that is really nice. I'm considering changing out fenders, grill, hood, bumpers, etc. if they'll bolt up easily.

I put new floorpans in it and will rebuild the six-banger, but it's not going to be a "correct" car in many ways, so that isn't a big issue on this car. Actually, I kinda like the newer hood better.

Will this be a straight swap, or will I get into a lot of modifications to get the '62 stuff to mount up?

8) the two cars are essentially the same, minor detail differences at best.

The swap wouldn't be too bad. You have to change out the radiator support, so get the radiator support from the 62. Just drill out the spot welds (do the same on the 61) then reweld to your ranchero.

Yeah, I like the 62/63 look a little better for a ranchero too. If you can post pics as you go.

I think there's more involved than changing the core support. The 62 clip is longer by a few inches.
