MULTIPLE LEAKS DISCOVERED.... HERE WE GO

Post #1 by DOMER94 » Tue Apr 20, 2010 11:01 pm

spent some good time under the car today and discovered leaking rear tranny housing extension seal , tranny pan gasket , pinion seal , and differntial cover gasket. looks like i will be mr plumber once the parts arrive.

any special suggestions for doing these seals and getting everything back together? i found an original ford seal replacement tool on ebay, but i assume i can use a regular seal puller for removal? ive been reading up on the procedure in the shop manual as well, but there is no substitue for peoples experience.

i just hope the yokes arent messed up.

this explains my car and I've had everything rebuilt, but it still leaks at way too many places. I'll be following this thread too.

well, finally got down to it this weekend. just wrapped up tonight. replaced tailshaft seal, pinion shaft seal, dropped tranny pan / cleaned up / painted / new gasket in. same goes for rear end cover , all which were leaking / weeping. oh... while i was in there.. replaced all shocks with KYB gas-adjusts. topped up rear , started filling trans , will finish tomorrow when i can start the car and go through the proper filling procedure. finall . i will test drive and hope nothing blows up or lets go !!! here are some pics. had the tailshaft special tool from ford, but the rear end had to go in gingerly with taps from a ball peen. trans filter / screen was just cleaned up and re-installed.
