Need Help with vin #

Post #1 by papawfalcon » Wed Jun 30, 2010 1:45 pm

I spotted a 63' falcon 2-door about an hour away from home and cant find owner. Had dmv run vin. they said no luck car hasnt been licenced for many yrs. Has EXCELLANT body. Anybody know another way of trying to find owner. All the houses around say it was in the garage for years and about a year ago whoever took car out and and been sitting outside garage. Neighbors never see anybody around.

VIN # is 3A01S145522 not sure on the 5th number or letter if its 5 or S

Do a search on the property. Find the previous and current owners and go from there.
Most property records are public records. At least they are here in Tx. Our countys actualy have the info available on the internet.

I had a little trouble finding info in your area. You can also mark a map and visit your local tax assessor.

The tax man knows who the lot belongs to! Most records of who own property are public records, so you have access, if you know how to go about it.
All of the counties around here have websites where you can find it yourself without hiring someone or bothering them to look it up. Go see your county tax assesor and ask nicely for some help. Just make sure you can show them exactly where it is.

You could put a For Sale sign on it with your phone number- I guarantee that if the owner is keeping an eye on it at all he will call you quick to find out who you are.

Did find out the property its on is a furnel home thats for sale. Called listing agent and they said they have has several calls about the car. realtor told me they have no clue who owns it asked me what kinda car it was cause none of the other callers knew exactlly what it was.

Maybe you should tell them you would be happy to remove that "old eye sore" for free or for a low scrap price like a junkyard pays. After all it might be keeping them from being able to sell the property. :hmmm: Sounds as though no one really needs or cares about the ol Falcon. The shame is more than likely the new owner of the property probably will just send it to the crusher. :bang:

Don't know rules in IL. We can do a simple bill of sale here, I just get an official one from the DMV have the person sign it and fill out. Never had trouble with an older car, as they don't consider them to have much value. Then there is also a lien sale used by mechanics and other shops.

In Texas there is also the option of a bonded title. Just in case someone does stake a claim to it.

look into the salvage laws for abandoned vehicles. especially if the owner of the property cannot be traced. may have been some sort of forclosure. if that s the case , everything on the property may be up for grabs at some point soon!! sounds like an interesting quest you are embarked on. good luck!!

:D As Sherlock Holmes would say"The games afoot".Keep us informed on your quest.
The info you find might help another member one day on a similiar hunt.

not sure on the 5th number or letter if its 5 or S

It is an S...had the same problem when I go my Falcon re-tagged after it sit for 5 years. Had to call County cop to the house to write the vin number down on a forum to give the tag office. He wrote down a 5 and I had to do the whole process over again. The 5th character is always a letter to tell the engine size. Good luck finding the owner.

I would get an official Bill of Sale from your state DMV fill out all the info with Vin. No. Etc. and have the junkyard owner sign it. Check your states DMV online web site you should be able to print any forms needed off it. Then there is also a lien sale used by mechanics, other shops, and probably that junkyard too. Good luck
