TAILSHAFT HOUSING REMOVAL ON A 61 SPEED

Post #1 by DOMER94 » Sat Jul 17, 2010 11:33 am

i need to pull the shaft bushing to replace it , however there is no tool available anywhere. so i will now have to pull the whole housing (already found a gasket). is this something that can be performed relatively easily from under the car? i saw a small crossmember that has to com out but pther than that any tips? thanks

Yes it pretty straightforward. Drain oil out, pull driveshaft, speedometer gear, remove crossmember, allow trans to drop down a little bit (just enough to side the tail housing out) and support it with blocks or a jack under the main case. Last remove tail housing. Good luck
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.
