Gas Surging out of gas cap ?

Post #1 by falconcritter » Wed May 23, 2018 5:36 pm

I am at work today and the wife calls me FREAKING OUT :x gas is spitting out of the gas cap and when she took the cap it poured out . Any idea how to vent the tank / fill tube ? Any 68 69 Falcon owners deal with this ?

:hmmm: have you tried a new gas cap yet?
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

That can happen if the gas comes out of the ground and the driver or whoever fuels it up put too much gas in the tank. Particularly if it is a hot day. The cool gas will expand as it warms up to the ambient temp. Easiest correction is to not fill it to the very tippy top of the neck. Plus, the neck is pretty short on these cars so there is not much room for it to expand to, like on a Caddie or something.

This used to happen all the time before the catalytic/anti-pollution stuff, when the cap was simply vented to the air. Now, both the gasoline and vapors are held inside the tank.
