best muffler choice

Post #1 by 1967mustangman » Sun Oct 03, 2010 7:55 pm

hello i have a 1966 mustang 200 ci i was wondering what the best mufflers are. I know people say Flowmasters but i don't want the drone that everyone complains about. I want the muscle car deep aggressive sound with side exiting before rear axle. I just don't know which mufflers would be best hooker competition muffler or Flowtech after burner or Magnaflows, i just don't know what sounds good exiting the sides i worry about the flowmaster drone being annoying. No body has mustang 200 ci sound clips. so it is very hard thanks any help sound clips, or anything will be greatly appreciated i just don't want my car to sound like a rice burner. I really don't have the money for a header so that is out of the question for me. Thanks again.

Turbo Muffler gives a nice sound
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

I think a muffler is a muffler when you really look at them, they muffle the sound in each a unique way that it comes down to sound that you want.

for low deeper sounds you want a bigger pipe, hte smaller pipes are good of you have dual exhaust.

i personally have true dual with magnaflows out the back, the sound clip is in the sig
65mustang-SOLD-200ci-t5-scarebird disks-vintage air ac-264/274 110 cam-mav 8inch 3.8 open-350cfm-CI headers
66 Bronco-SOLD-i6 170 - rust bucket never ran...
75 bronco-SOLD-v8 c4 dana 20 33's and disk brakes, locker front/rear.

Mufflers are for personal tastes.

You can get a stock muffler, if you want low noise but high back pressure.

You can go with a turbo muffler, if you want low back pressure but a mellow tone.

You can go with a DynaMax, if you want a more aggressive note.

Or you could get one of those "farting mufflers" that the rice burners use if you don't care about the ear drums of the surrounding drivers or what they think of you.

Like I said, personal tastes.

I put Thrush Turbos on mine, and they sound great.
