Autolite 1100 Carb Adjustment Question

Post #1 by paul25g » Tue Jun 21, 2011 12:52 pm

Hi guys,

I have a question about adjusting the Automatic Choke Plate Clearance (Pull-down) and Fast Idle Cam Linkage on my carb.

The '66 workshop manual says to:

The automatic choke fast idle cam linkage must be properly adjusted before performing the choke plate clearance (pull-down) adjustment.

1. Insert a gauge pin or drill of the specified clearance (Part 10-8) thickness between the throttle plate and the side of the throttle bore. Hold the throttle plate against the gauge pin or drill (Fig. 7). Close the choke plate and turn the fast idle screw inward until it just contacts the fast idle cam.

2. Place a drill or gauge of the same thickness as the specified clearance (Part 10-8) between the choke plate and the upper body wall (Fig.8). Close the choke plate on the drill or gauge and hold it securely.

3. Close the throttle until the fast idle screw touches the fast idle cam. Adjust the plastic nut to just contact the swivel on the choke lever assembly.

At the top of the column on the carb specs page it mentions a 0.036" gauge. Down the column across from my carb it shows 0.130-0.150". I assume that a 0.036" gauge should be used first for the fast idle adjustment and then a gauge of 0.130-0.150" should be used to adjust the choke valve pull-down. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Thanks!

Paul

It goes by the carb number do you have the tag yet? If you know that I can give the spec

In my digital FSM best I can tell there is a footnote (6) after the .036" gauge at the top of that column. The way I read it that is the gauge for the "secondary throttle plate setting" for 4bbl (which corresponds to the number of turns in the far right column), but of no concern on a 1v  .13-.15" is what you want....IIRC 1/8" drill bit should get you close enough. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys. The tag is gone, but this is an Autolite carb for a '66 Mustang 200CID 3 speed manual. I was looking at the specs for C5OF-Y.

I saw that footnote but wondered if it really should have been footnote (1) and was just a typo. Reason being, there is no (1) shown anywhere on the rest of the page but (6) shows up a lot in the far right column under Secondary throttle plate setting. Just though (1) made more sense under the pull-down column. Anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks!

Best I can tell looking under "specialty tools" at end of specifications section that ".036" is for "Choke Plate Clearance (Pull Down) Piston Slot Wire Gauge"...can't say I've ever checked that...that measure would be close to a 1/32" drill bit  too small for adjustment sequence

Footnote (1) "Dechoke Clearance" might be better illustrated here...

These pages might also help or you can compare against the '64 Manual...

Falcon/Comet FAQ ('60-'64 manuals)

Basically 1/8" to 5/32" drill bit should work for adjustment sequence on the 1v....maybe someone else can confirm or correct.

Thanks for the info guys!

Any idea about the differences in the black plastic choke caps? Mine is marked "TO" on the outside....the workshop manual says mine should be a "TS". Thanks!
