Fox body quad headlamp replacements

Post #1 by xctasy » Tue Oct 08, 2013 2:39 pm

I do night drive overs and signs auditing in my 1981 Mustang. It uses headlamps without replaceable bulbs, the stock pre integrated headlamp sealed beam quad lamps. They are a bit of a bear to change, since most of our cars are European style integrated headlamp cars since 1978 or so. There are a lot of exceptions...Subarus, a few rear drive Corona's, JDM Mark II Toyotas, Colt Sigma and Galants from 1979 to 1982, our Falcon based ZJ/ZH Fairlanes from late 1979 to 1985.

On my local Tradme site, I have a set of American style Toyota quad headlamps off a TT132 Corona.

I'm looking for a regular, easy replacment for the Ford quad headlamps for 1979 to 1986 Ford Mustangs and Capris, and also the other quad lamp Foxes. Ford use a particular spade for electric linkages, and I've got to find a source locally that interchange with the Ford items.

These are Toyota ones, they have different grounds but are otherwise the same I think. Do the US 1983-1988 Mazda 626 or any other US import use the same headlamps. Sadly, the Ford Australia quad headlamp 1979-1985 ZJ ZH Fairmonts

looks a lot different to the headlamp of the Fox body Fords

On my old four eye stangs, I had replaced the high beams with European lights. It was amazing how well those things works. Have seen the good one like them sold here for years.
The ones I had IIRC were Ciebe ? were French and took 100W H1 bulbs I do remember that.
There was nothing like them for Highway speeds at Night.

The only thing close now are the ones made in china i see on Ebay like these
They aren't bad as some claim they are.
I have them in My Jeeps and RV. (I use Sylvania Silverstar bulbs in them. )

These look like the same exact brand that I bought for my RV a couple of years ago.

Thanks.

Itds my my low beam lights, each the left or right blows before each six monthly inspection. :bang:

I'm just looking for standard replacements, my eyes are good and I don't need better high beams. I used to drive at 90 mph in an old car in the dark with poor delineation, I don't need anything better than stock in a 60 mph enviroment with good signs and painted road markings and 'cats eyes'.

I know they are more money but the Sylvania Silverstars are quite good for the money.
They make sealed beam replacements as well as bulbs.

Hmmm. It's a stock item that I need, that is stocked.

I've got supply by one person here, it looks like they use standard Ford replacements since he also does the old Group A Davison Kramer Mustang

http://www.carpartsandmore.com.au/musta ... oup040.jpg

So I can get him to do it at a fee. Maybee that's my best option. My other option was just getting some Toyota Stanley or Koto's, which are what my JDM Mustang runs, and pop them in with a Toyota style plug.

That's what I'm looking at, something stock, that is stocked.

I'm not sure I need an extra few candellas of lighting from better quality replacements.

I'll check with the Toyota guys here, I have a few contacts and they might have locally what you suggest. Lots of guys are doing up the old Tojo quad lampers here, so I just have to network, and I'm sure that will help.

Thanks again for the information, its solid gold to me. Your time and quick response is appreciated.

Ta.

For less than 12 US Dollars each, I got standard replacement Dot approved, and they rock.

Now your US Fairmont is in a Canadian jurisdiction, DOT rules do not apply, do you use E code lights with replaceable bulbs, or just the stock sealed beam quads in your Four Eye, JF? What is your experience?
