67 200 valve miss? Or ignition maybe fuel

Post #1 by John_mcgarvie » Sat Nov 21, 2015 11:38 pm

I have had the same miss since i got the mustang. She runs good except every couple seconds she studers. Sometimes once sometimes 3-4 times. Then sometimes when warmed up it wants to miss real bad at idle.Things i have done to repair. Replaced Holley 1940 for autolite 1100.new vacuum advance and thanks to a member of this site a free electronic ignition. New fuel system.Timing is set at 12deg and the advance is working. The timing light i have is not blinking everytime and before i pull the head i just want to make sure i didnt miss something. Also the dollar bill trick on the exhaust pipe results in the dollar getting sucked in and out . Not shure what that means i just saw my dad do it a few times. And all my cylinders have the same compression except the third one it is 110 fifteen points lower than the rest.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Was it running better before you replaced the carburetor?
Did you check/replace your plug wires?

Ok compression is 120 128 110 120 130 120 so
C4 tranny
Ok so im taking the head off worried about the piece that has possibly broke off the valve and wondering if there is a way to check the rings. If there are no apparent problems. Like filling with a liquid and measuring leakdown and what fluid. As i will be changing the oil.

:hmmm: I am guessing that this engine sat unused for an extended amount of time. What do the cylinder walls look like? Is there a Ridge at top of the bore, is there still any cross hatch showing? Chances are that if its a high Milage engine that the rings are also worn out too. You will probably be ahead of the game taking it all apart for an inspection of its condition. You might consider doing a rering kit too (gives you most of the parts you need for a low budget rebuild) if the cylinders, Pistons, and most parts still look good. You might be able to get by just doing the repairs to the head for while. Good luck

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

Maybe there's an issue with the distributor.
Broken spring or something?

I have removed the head working on polishing the ports know had to get 6 new exhaust valves.because they where to flattened to pull out of the guides without destroying the valve guides.
