Mechanical Gauge Location

Post #1 by Matthew68 » Sun Sep 17, 2017 9:37 pm

Hi All,

I'm looking to install mechanical gauges, just don't have the confidence in the factory gauges. I'm trying to decide the best mounting location on a 68 Mustang. The interior is all stock with the exception of the aftermarket radio. Any clever places or best places so they don't stick out like a sore thumb but are also viewable? Also - any advice on which auto meter style gauge? There seem to be a million.

Cheers,
M

On my 67 fastback with GT dash (factory tach and Speed O Meter combo) I mounted an oil pressure gauge in the center top were in a few rare cases some GT Mustangs might of came with a clock. It's a good spot for a gauge that you need to see quickly, Like a Vacuum gauge. My other gauges (Temp, Amp or Volt, etc.) were mounted in center at bottom of the dash. On cars with a center console the radio is dropped down lower, I have seen some people mount their gauges were the radio would be in center of dash on the standard Mustungs. Good luck
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.
