I guess, technically, I have two. I have a '70 2dr and a ''77 4dr I've been robbing for parts--- upgrading to the '77 wheels, rear end, and brakes. The '77 has been whacked pretty hard in the side, and has a good bit of rust on the body, so I'll just use it as a parts car. On the other hand, the '70 has 64000 orig. mi. and had the engine replaced by Ford in '85 to get rid of the old soft valve seats. It's a NM car, so virtually no rust except the bumpers. I'm looking for another early body, 'cause the engine in the '77 only has 74000 on it. Or maybe I'll just pull it and rebuild it as needed for a spare.

"I don't practice what I preach, 'cause I'm not the kind of man I'm preaching to..."

'70 Mav: 250, C-4, Prestolite ignition, Front Disk Brakes & 8" Rear from '77 Mav-- getting there...

hit the nail on the head! Niether of us know what to do with it right now. it will eventually get turned into one heck of a sleeper with the four doors and all. Unfortunatley to run the big boys it's power will be made from a angry 302 with nitrous. 8)

I don't right now, but I'm still trying to talk a 70 200 auto out of a grandson that received it but is letting it sit because he likes rice. :boom:
It's been in a barn covered up since about 81 or so, last fall I drove by and seen it pushed outside so I went up to the house and found out the old guy died and the grandson inherited it. He backed it out to look at it then left it for about a week...then notice the water he put in under it.(FROZE) :bang: :bang:

On another note, my cousin has a 76 4 door and 6 parts cars from 71-76.
Go racing this weekend....or feed the family?......uhh.....uhh....I'M THINKING OK???

The comet has a hilborn injected 250 ci with a c4 trans.
The falcon is a driver with a 170 + 2spd auto. Will keep till we finish paint and interior work. While he is saveing money. Future plans for a 200 with a c4. Have quite a few parts to build a nice runner.

How many Mavericks to change...

Post #22 by powerband » Thu May 08, 2003 7:56 pm

I picked up a very rusty but low mileage 71 Mav for spares for my Falcon and Comet. I have the Engine, tranny, clutch, rear tranny member cut out of the body, shocks and brackets, driveshaft, 8"rear, gastank, grille, interior parts, steer column and pedal setup, lights, wiring and most anything I could conceivably use.
Does this count in your survey as 'having or had' a Maverick? 8)

PS here is the engine in a cradle I built to work on it:

Post #23 by 76maverick » Thu May 08, 2003 11:25 pm

I think thats a 1/2 aof a maverick :D

Post #24 by MadMav73 » Fri May 09, 2003 8:53 pm

i didn't know we have this many mavericks on the site????? where have you people been? What's the tally up to anyways?

Post #25 by 76maverick » Sat May 10, 2003 1:25 am

10 and a 1/2 is what I counted cars that is not owners

Post #26 by madmavrick » Sun May 11, 2003 1:14 am

I have a 1977 Mav. I've done some minor work to it but I'm planning on putting in a big V8 and getting rid of the 250 that's in there now.

madmavrick wrote:I'm planning on putting in a big V8 and getting rid of the 250 that's in there now.

C'mon are you sure we cann't persuade you to a 300 inline six????
These inlines are good for cruisers and are very smooth, but to run faster than a 14 sec 1/4 mile is real unrealistic if you have a buget.

It's just fun to lift the hood and people look real funny and say what's that? ''It's a 250 inline six that whoped your but!" 8)

So thats 11 and a 1/2.

I still have my first one, a 1971 Grabber. I've had it over 20 years, and over 500,000 miles. Around 1985, I had a small block street car, it went 11.40 with mufflers and street tires (Pro-tracs, not the sticky dot stuff like we have today) And about 8 other Mavericks since then too, some were just "donors" for my Grabber...

I have 3 Mavericks. A 69.5 two door california car with a 170 3sp and 170k miles on it. A 72 two door rust bucket from Illinois with a 170 3sp and 125k miles on it and a 73 four door Arizona car with a 302 automatic and 150k miles on it. All the cars run and are usedas daily drivers except the rust bucket.

Got a 69.5 rusting away in my driveway :(

Post #40 by tbr » Tue Nov 11, 2003 1:23 am

300k miles, 200ci, 4spd, hurst shifter, tricked out suspension, rusted out old clifford header from 1980, & cylinder #5 reads 5psi compression.

I have really wanted an aussie xflow since I first read about them ~ 1978.

maybe when time & money meet in total harmonic convergence;)

Hey guys. I just bought a really sweet '71 Maverick last week. I hadn't seen one since I was a kid and I had to have it. Well I have it and it looks sweet but the engine is giving me trouble, :bang: it runs strong but I have some white smoke coming out of the exhaust and from the hose that attaches to the breather on the valve cover...anyone have any ideas? In MO a '71 has to pass emissions and it passed the CO but not the HC test, the pass level is 700 or below HC level and mine had 931. BTW it's an inline 6 200 engine. Please HELP  :smash:

Post #49 by 76maverick » Wed Mar 31, 2004 12:25 am

cool ya live in mo how close are ya to st louis I`m 64 miles west from there

Post #50 by busch » Wed Mar 31, 2004 10:56 am

I live 20 miles south of st. louis, can't tell you when the last time I have seen a Maverick around here. I've had many offers on it in the week I've had it and many puzzled looks from teenage kids, Maverick? who makes that.....err
