I`m a teenage kid too (16) and I didn`t know what a maverick was untill I was 12 when my mother got it after that I was hooked on mavericks and I`ll be getting a 72 2 door (rolling shell more or less) to make into a drag car once I get this one going :D .

as for the white smoke I don`t remember if that means the carb is out of tune or if you`r burning oil but I think its oil wich could be the valve seals or the piston rings but if you ask in the 144 - 250 forum they can help you alot more than I can

I just finished overhauling the engine in my '71 Maverick, and I'm happy to say she is running absolutely great (I wish I was as happy about my savings account). I'm hoping to be able to have some pics available tomorrow to post on here. This site is great, I've picked up many tips and ideas from reading these forums. Thanks.

71 Maverick

Post #64 by JOSephInE » Mon Apr 26, 2004 1:46 pm

I just bought a 1971 Maverick (my 1st car) with the help of my Dad. I love it, its way cool....all (well a few ne way) the boys at my school are jealous....well either jealous or mad....i've even heard a couple of them say, why does she have a car like that? she's a girl!!! Is it that uncommon for a girl to like older muscle cars? I think not, though I don't really know much about cars (i'm gonna be using you guys for that hopefully) I have always loved older cars.......and I refuse to drive a rice*burner.

I've been trying to find a pic of the Mad Frenchman's Mavy. (No, it doesn't surrender... )

Guess Josie had to darken that shot, to hide the "ear-to-ear" new car/first car grin that probably isn't cool if you're 16. :P

vinyl cracks

Post #76 by JOSephInE » Thu Apr 29, 2004 1:36 am

:D <--my ear to ear

well my main goal now is to either repair the 3 cracks i have in the dashboard.....or find a replacement.......if i decide to replace the dash are there ne good buys out there? or companies to buy from that ne1 knows of? or should i head to a salvage yard? i googled maverick tonight and found one that a guy took out the rear lights and replaced it with i think it was a 68 cougar sequential light setup...talk about cool..it was that.

I'm sixteen and just inherited my family's maverick this past summer. My brother was driving and pushed her a little too hard, and threw a rod. Me and my dad replaced the engine with an even older 250 and I have been obsessed with it ever since.

Cool! Get that edumacation. Never heard anyone say I should have skipped college.

I got into this car industry before you had to have a 4 yr degree. It has been a limiter not having one. I got an AA degree and that + experiance has helped.
