is it just me?

Post #1 by mavchick » Sun Mar 16, 2008 6:21 pm

At least once a month I bang my head on my Maverick when I get in/out.

Its freekin short! I'm only 5'8"

Maybe I should get some different seats?

Maybe you ought to adjust your technique:

Sitting behind the wheel, press your knees together and swing BOTH legs out of the car together. Place both feet on the ground at the same time and stand up more slowly, bending forward slightly until you are standing straight up. Entry is the reverse of exit.

I used this technique when I had a lower leg cast from the bike accident.

Back in the mid'late 70s, C***y coupes had swiveling buckets. That would help. 8)

As for me, I am changing my seats. I put in Fox body buckets, and they're taller than stock. It's hard enough to get into convertible, but there is precious little room for my fat thighs between the seat and the steering wheel. I give myself a serious case of scoliosis trying to get in and out without banging my head. That's another reason to drive a convertible. :D

with these mustang seats i got alot more room. they sink me down pretty low which is how i like to ride anyway

i do bang my head alot in my comet then i did with my maverick and i think its because it didnt have as many miles on it and the bench seat wasnt as worn so it sits your head up a little higher towards the roof. im 5'11 and i know its time to get a hair cut when i can feel it rubbing against the headliner lol

I do have lots of pics of my maverick on myspace, I just only let them be viewable by my friends or else everyone in town would know who was driving that little yellow car.

Just add me as your friend or something

Approved
:D No my dad bought me three fords.
Well, actually I went to a public auction in search of my first car. I had my eye on a 72 firebird. Well it turned out that they didn't have the title on the bird. So I was stuck still looking for my first car. I decided to look around the auction and I saw the Maverick was the oldest car on the lot. I was like WTF is a Maverick?
It was nasty with fake wood trim and a vinyl roof. So as I inspected it, I noticed it would look pretty cool if I got some "big tires", ripped off the trim and vinyl.
Back then I didn't really know anything about engine size or performance or really too much about cars in general.

So I told my dad thats what I want, he bought it for 1,200. He said ok and later that day I had a mav with under 1000 mile on it sitting in my driveway.

But now I'm happy! I prefer it to any other car even though its without power breaks.

Oh and what color silver was that"after " pic and what shade yellow did you end up going with?

I wish I had a grabber hood:D jeesh! I can never find one for under $160 in AZ

well I've posted these pictures before, here they are again. with a little explanation.

I did some work before this photo- but I forgot to document my progress.
Took off fake trim and vinyl. Also added a spoiler

I actually don't have a new under the hood shot. perhaps tomorrow.

This is actually an after photo of my interior. I painted the whole thing flat black. It used to be tan. Bought and installed new carpet. I also installed a new grant steering wheel and some pedals. New seat belts too. Need an updated photo

http://a354.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/128/l_e01a4044d8d38ac9b0b3875cd8725fc9.jpg

1st paint job was gun metal Grey.

http://a448.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/74/l_bedd59dbee5e2db0087b9079a9f1fb47.jpg

Then I got my windows tinted and I stole some wheels from a ford expedition.

http://a331.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/104/l_7b00653942e546d252d62deec619b62a.jpg

Then I got smashed

So I bought a new maverick for $500 but I couldn't steal the door and the quarter panel because it was such a nice body.

Here is the finished car about four months ago.
I've made some minor alterations though.

That's great. A good boyfriend filter that your dad approves of. Guys hate it when their girl knows more about their car than they do. Bet your dad is real proud of you, too.

I know. It worked that way for my daughter when she used a wrench and screwdriver to tighten up a loose shifter that her date had been complaining about for two months. Hard to ask her out again without major progress on the ride. Well, that and she TOLD him to get it fixed permanently before they went out again.

i had a similar problem were my legs would hit the stock steering wheel.

so i swapped in 89Tempo buckets(it was the first car i crashed)

i modified the brackets to lower them 4" and 2" back, than the stock bench seat.

just need to get them re-upholstered

i never hit my head(5'11), and i sit in the perfect position.

I am constantly banging my head on the hood latch which was deliberately designed by Ford as a promo for band-aids by Johnson & Johnson. My head is perpetually scabbed by this moronic engineering design by the flunkies at Faber college.

I will be removing the latch assembly and using some alternate hood latches and hydraulic type hinges in the near future, if my head is still in one piece.

i modified my hood latch so it wont open from the outside unless u pull a cable first.and i replaced the hood prop with hydraulic shocks.

i've never hit my head on the latch because i always work on the right or left side never in the center. ;-)
