Post #1 by xctasy » Sat Oct 13, 2012 4:27 am

About four moths ago, did anyone notice this awesome 1970 Maverick with pre-production 2v head and mechnical Port injection a while back on CL?

This car was posted on a Maverick site, then a Fox site, and one of the guys said that its an Inline 6 that ran Bonneville!

That would have been a great option on your new Maverick.

An article from 1984, cataloguing the 1969 model year. I've repeated Jacque Passino's 250 talk up many times over the past 9 years...here it is again from the Consumer Guide periodical I get all my information from...

The 155 hp 250 represented a first wave of i6 resurgence. There was then supposed to be a second wave Ak Miller style outworking of the intermediate California Sprint package, just the basic six with more olives. That would have been what became the M code Australian 170 horse 250 after the 155 hp L codes first 1968 appearance on the Fairlane/Ranchero pickup and then as a 68 Mustang option.

Step 3 would have been Port fuel injection. Its all here. But Ford buckled, and the previewed "Horseing around with the Mustang Six" and Hilbourne Mutilple Port Injection kits never saw the light of day on production cars asside from that June-July 1967 issues of Hot Rod. Part I and Part II, which was previewed in a factory Ford blurb in 1968 (Refer for original rescan at http://www.classicinlines.com/HA1.asp) and the above Bonneville Maverick.

:hmmm: I remember reading an article on one of the Ak Miller Maverick builds around 1969 or early 70. Car was lowered with suspension improvements so it would really go around corners think there was some comparison to handling of it to a Boss 302 Mustang. Had a top loader 4 speed and he was using a Bosh mechanical fuel injection system don't remember much else about it. I wonder if that was one the F.I. systems that Ford was considering for the sixes? Sure would like to find that old article and also those I have heard about on Ak's turbo six experiments. Dose anyone have copy's of the late 60's, 70's, and up Ak Miller six featured cars?
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

cool set up. might be fun to find a system from something like a mercedes 280sl to rob and install on one of our sixes.
