Coil Resistor

By the looks of the 77 232 in my CJ, it has a resistor before the coil. I get 12.8 volts into it and 12 volts out of the resistor. I'm not getting any spark and I suspect it's a bad coil.

A friend gave me an Accel 140001 (http://accel-ignition.com/original-supe ... oints.html) coil that he had kicking around from a waggy project he sold. I'm wondering if I need to run the resistor with this accel coil, or if I can run it straight off the ignition wire. The instructions (http://accel-ignition.com/media/instruc ... 140001.pdf) say to run an Accel resistor (http://accel-ignition.com/ballast-resistor.html) with your original resistor. But then again, I think that is assuming you are running a points distributor. I wouldn't think my 75 with a 77 motor would be running points.

Also, I got the coil used with no adapter on top. How can I rig it up to fit the fitting on the wire from the distributor to the coil?

Hopefully this solves my no spark issue and and I can move on to the carb.

I never had any luck with the Accel super coils burnt three of them up over 1 year and gave up... I ran them with the resistor and without and the same. does your jeep have the ford style Ignition box? I can't remember how far they went back I know 1979 they had them.

I'm not sure. There doesn't seem to be an ignition box anywhere. One suggestion I got was to get a 79 distrubitor and do the team Rousch mos to it, which I believe uses some parts from an early 80's 300.

Mine was located down on the inside drivers side fender. from what I have found on the net they use the ford style module from 75 and up.

I'll have to take another look. This thing is cobbled and that could be the reason I'm not getting spark.

A 79 dizzy for a Jeep 6 is a duraspark I unit. both the Jeep with 6s and V8s had it. you would still need the resister with it.
No matter what I can't see you needing 2 resisters.
