I just bought a 61 Lark with the OHV 6 not to long ago and figured I'd start a forum on here about them since I didn't see one.

Feel free to tell your problems or give advice on these engines since there isn't much info on these. I know I'd appreciate info too.

Thanks everyone!

Everything about the last Studebakers was very reasonable.

Good IFS

Good chassis

Good ventilation

Good brakes

To the stalwart reliablity of the old 1939 six was added another 2000 rpm and more miles per gallon, and genuinely good acceleration with the extra 22hp and making 20.3 second quarter miles and 0-60's in 16 secs was far better than the unmodified 170 flattie. Prblem is, all the gear is for the flatties, they have 140 hp versions which really honk.

Your OHV options are great, though.

He's now 79, so go easy on the man. ;)

Add Bill Cathcart's T5 gearbox adaptor

his split headers,

a home built 4bbl Carter AFB or WCFB iron intake

Modern transistorised ignition

And your six port headed in liner will make 185 hp with the right reground cam profile.

Dude that's sick!! Thanks for all the Info. For the most part I want to keep the car pretty stock. But the headers sound like a good idea. I might try to set up a weber 32/36 on it like I did my 65 Ranchero 200.
