New Distributor for 254 Flatty

Post #1 by sammywayne23 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 4:41 pm

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. Currently I am working on a 254 Flathead six in sort of heavy duty pickup Ford might have built in 1950. Right now this truck just has a stock 254 flatty with a T98 behind it. I thought it might be fun to play around with the big 254 and do something different. Anyways, I would like to upgrade my load-o-matic distributor. I would like to upgrade to something with mechanical advance, as I would like options for carbs. Does anyone know where a good place to start for this sort of swap would be?

Any info appreciated,

Sam

Many people in the past have swapped in a six cylinder MoPar, 200 Ford six, or GM Distribitor essentially modding the shaft and Distribitor body as needed to fit in your 254 flathead six (226's too). In general any six cylinder Distribitor that turns the same direction as the Ford and has a citrifical advance could be made to work plus going with one that's also a later style electronic system also helps. Most of these distributors with the exception of a MoPar flathead six will also need to have the advance cruve modded too. Check below link for some more info, good luck

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

What distributor is the easiest to modify, or most straight forward, for the 226?
