rear main seal 52 ford pu 215 ohv six

does the ford 215 ohv six require a rope rear main seal or is there newer technology? and does this repair require the oil pan to be removed?

They orginally used a rope seal, you will need to remove the oil pan and the rear main cap and then loosen up all the other mains enough to install a new one. There was a tool called a Sneaky Pete to help remove and install a new rope seal. I don't know if there is a newer lip type seal that will fit but maybe they do make one for the 215 Ford engines. do you have to pull the transmission and remove the clutch and flywheel to put in the new main seal?

You need to remove the trans so crank can move down some, it can be done with fly wheel and clutch installed though.
