I know they didn't use any of the molded on wire boots on the plug ends before 1951 and I am not so sure that they even had boots at the cap end either. Original wires were solid copper core type kind of like the old Packard 440. I guess it would depend if you are restoring it too the original look and specs or planing on some performance mods. If you want the best performance then you would for sure want to use both the plug and cap boots. Good luck
