split rings

How important are the split rings for either the intake or exhaust manifolds, I can't remember which is round. I found two of them under my car after doing the manifold gskts. Not relishing the thought of doing it again. Joe

They help align the ports in the head to the ports in the intake/exhaust manifold. Misaligning them can cause vacuum leaks or exhaust leaks and other issues if the misalignment is too much.
