240 Con Rods

Post #1 by Inline Six » Thu Oct 26, 2006 6:26 pm

Hello y'all,

Does anyone know where I can find out a set of 6 - 240 connecting rods ? It may be new or used ones !
I'd also like to know the true 240 con rod length and pin diameter !
Does anyone know if there is someone which makes blueprinted steel 240 rods for a Drag Race application ? Forged aluminum ones ? Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Thank you,

I've got a feeling PAW sell a set of reconditioned 240 rods. Not sure if there's a core charge.

According to the 2006 FRPP catalog (p.217) the 240 con rod length is 6.7947"

Also the 240 pin diameter is the saem as the 289/302/351W pin diameter.

300 rods are the saem as the FE family pin size.

Ah, yes ... the FRPP catelog is a wonderful thing.

Lookiing at the other entries on that chart one fact jumped out at me. At 6.7947 " there's no other engine in that entire chart with a connecting rod length as long as the 240 inline 6. The next closest is the 5.4 L V8 rod at 6.6575. That means that unless there is an engine from GM or Chrysler or some other manufacturer that has connecting rods that can be substituted a person who needs new rods will pretty much need to either find a set of original Ford 240 rods, or have a set of rods custom made. I suppose there's a chance that one of the performance parts vendors may make a set of rods for the 240 for some sort of racing application, but if there is I sure don't know who it is.

One possible source for custom made connecting rods is:

I'm doing some work at a friend's machine shop. He says he has a set of 240 rods he can find if you need them. Of course, he can recondition them as well. The only "race-prep" he can do (other than Magnaflux testing for cracks) is to install ARP rod bolts. This might be sufficient for you. A few shops used to polish and shot-peen rods, but nowdays you can buy racing rods that are a lot better and don't cost much more than doing the full treatment on stock rods.

Let me know . . .
