As of 2-18-2010, the Argo rolled 300,000 miles. Just wanted to post this publicly. How many miles are on your six? FYI, right before rolling 300, she dependably, solidly, and bravely soldiered through two back to back blizzards.

I've had my odometer off by at least 5% for the past year, some I'm looking at about 300K or slightly over. She's still mowing through the blizzards here (more to come I hear) and I've been pulling people out non-stop. I think one of the smallest things I pulled as a Hynduai that slide off the highway, didn't even feel like it was there. This was all after getting stuck in the creek with the tire between a large mound (of ice...) and a 10" log and overheating a little. Getting a lower rad. hose block heater from TSC as soon as I can for next year :mrgreen:


Bruiser - 1990 Ford F150...barely...EFI 300 Big Six, 500K+!, converted to 4x4. 4.10 gears and Sterling FF rear w/ Trac-Lok, 37" meats. Undergoing 1 Ton leaf spring SAS. 6BT in the plans.

My neighbor across the street from me is a great guy and very friendly, but he likes to play the Chevy Vrs. Ford game. He's got a 2005 Chevy 1 ton SRW crew cab 4x4 Duramax. He's always telling me that he'll loan it to me if I ever need a "real" truck. After the first blizzard, He was hung up pretty bad. I offered to pull him out, and he begrudgingly accepted, mumbling something about my truck probably getting stuck too. But the Argo yanked that pig right out of it's hole. (It really is a nice truck, but I'll still take the Argo). Did I mention I only have poor-wheel-drive? Just a trac-Lok diff and a bed full of snow. :arg: :arg: :arg:

Im curious what the life expectancy is for a rebuilt performance 300. I prob wont run it much at the drag, just to see the times. Mostly driving it on the road and then letting it out on a track if I can find one. I prefer to race it on a track, NOT down a strip. It will be lovingly rebuilt, maintenance religously performed, etc. would 150,000 be possible?

I was afriad of that.............................. what about 100,000? 75,000? 50? to work? :cry:

Bout got it worked out: 2 webers, Comp cam (66-248-??), shorty headers, and rebuilt head, hypers (NO NOS!)

Ball park estimate on output, maybe somewhat less. I need to take the time to see how builds in this range have faired. I will Prob look into that tomorrow.

After a LOT of hard though and swallowing my desire for total performance I have attenpted to scale down and get a more functional reliable configuration. After thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours I would like something I could drive to town Saturday and enjoy.

The Argo just rocked 313,000 miles while pulling a moderate load (4,500 lbs, but a lot of wind drag) from Glen Burnie MD to Milford DE. FYI it is a (disassembled) giant wooden play/swing set for my kids.

My 93 F150 has been parked since 2007. At 201,000 it barely used any oil. Only a malfunctioning EGR and a slight clatter echoing from the block at idle on a warm day. I almost hate to part out the truck but others I own are better and the mouse smell would knock you over.

Nelly Belle my 95 F150 SC SB 5 speed 2wd just turned 225k and its going strong. It had no problems in the snow and its the best all around truck I've owned.

my father-in-law got 365K out of his 85 van before he gave it to my brother-in-law, who gave it to his son, who promptly destroyed it. i saw a fellow with 595K on his 81 4WD pickup, and i was pretty certain he wouldn't have any problem making past 600. when he bought it, it came with the overdrive transmission which exploded at about 40K. he put a junkyard t18 or t19 in it and rolled right along.

seeing those two vehicles is what made me decide to get my son his 86 f-150 for his first vehicle. i like the new toby keith ford commercials. :beer:

I doubt any of the Fords that Toby Keith is selling will hold up like these do though. :roll:

If only Ford would (could) use the Cummins engine... then Ford would have the two dominant inline sixes in the light truck market. (OK, they would have until they dropped the 4.9L because it wouldn't fit under the hood of the melted plastic model F-150 that came after the vent window style). They'd have had the best gas truck engine AND the best diesel truck engine. If they used the 5.9L Cummins little brother, the 3.9L as well, they could have had the best truck four in the Ranger and F-150. :deadhorse:

For the record, I seem to be getting the same MPG as the new eco-boost V6 is getting, and I can haul anything it can. The only difference is that the eco-boost will go faster, but will it go 300,000 miles plus while working as hard as my six does? Time will tell. :wrench:

m friend is a contractor with an 1988 F-150, 300, C6. 345,000 miles and counting.
X2 on the 3.9 L cummins for a F-150. I saw a truck on e-bay that had this combo, 1965 F-100 4x4, lifted, if I remember right.


1995 F-150 XL, 300-6, 4x4, ex-cab, sb, 3.08 5-speed, 2 1/2 in. exhaust w/flowmaster 50, MSDignition failed with no warning, now out, canopy, 179,000 + miles. Gone but not forgotten 1965 F-100 240 3spd lwb "the green hornet"; 1960 F-250 4x4, 223 six, 4sp with wrap-around rear window, two-tone paint, overhead camper.

Bruiser rolled over 400K sometime last fall/winter. Realized that the odometer stopped at 92K or so after having already rolled over 300K (got to watch that one). Speedo drive gear in the t-case has just enough of a dip in it to not make contact any more. Transmission/t-case/rear end have about 150K on them, front end has about 200K on it and the axles are a few months away from being replaced with dually 1 tons on military H1 split rims (single spacing vs. duals).
