300 Custom Valve Cover, breather?

Post #1 by clintonvillian » Thu Dec 04, 2014 3:36 pm

When designing my cover, I forgot to put a breather hole in the top cover of it.

Any issues just adding one into the side between the rockers somewhere? Or will I catch a lot of oil?

The factory breather holes have baffles, to prevent oil vapor from being sucked into the carburetor.

Just for review... The valve cover top is the part on the far left...

couldn't you just weld in a baffle on the backside of that cover? (small bent steel) and then use a breather/filler cap?

Something like this?
fit all valve covers with a 1-3/4" breather tube hole

And you are asking about a breather, not a PCV right?

Oh Wow. That is headed to excellence. Is that in mild steel?
I might consider a small baffle box at the convenient point, with just a through hole into the valve cover. then an appropriate bung to fit a PCV valve or other connection that helps you. The only side hole in a valve cover I have seen were on roundy round cars that needed to remove pooled oil from the top of the head.
Please post a finished pic. Consider selling a few copies of those cut pieces, if your not interested in selling a few finished pieces. It looks like it will have a real performance usage look.
Blessings,
Dr Jay

Does it need a PCV and a Breather????

Do the newer style caps vent it like the old ones?
