Offy C--4 month wait @Summit!

Post #1 by F-250 Restorer » Sun Dec 14, 2014 11:31 pm

Jegs doesn't have the C at all. Interesting. Are we maybe seeing the end of the Offy 240/300 intakes?

I have the DP now. I bought it at the beginning of my project when I knew nothing about engines. Since then I decided it foolish to do head work, install larger valves, do everything to make the engine breathe better, then install an intake with less than 50% of the oem intake runners. It also makes adjusting the mix screws very difficult with a higher rocker style valve cover. As soon as I locate a C I'll be selling my DP.

After hearing this, I checked and Clifford still has their site up. The intake I use is still available (at least listed).
That being said, there is no phone listed to call and check availability or assure yourself that the company is functioning. I have a bad feeling that part availability is really shutting down. Ah, maybe not. How could you tell?

I hope they are in business still those shortly headers look perfect for my 67 comet and looks like might still be able to put starter in without taking them off

Just checked, and Summit says 9.11.15 if ordered today for an Offy C. I wonder how much Clifford's sales have increased?

Its tough to quantify what the market is for the 300...

seems like there is very little internet/aftermarket activity for this engine, but then again most ford 300 types don't post on internet forums, ha.

obviously they've had enough market volume to keep producing them over the years, you see lots of them on cars on craigslist, you see them come up for sale on craig's pretty often.

I wonder if there are 1000, 5000, 10,000 people in america that have these and are interested in tuning them? hard to put a number to it. They sure aren't posting here.

I agree, and I wish they were with us. As a really representive group, we could support our benefactors, and support projects.

The quality of content on a forum really tends to degrade as the user populations gets larger. The HAMB, Fordification and FSB get the occasional idiot or two, FTE and Pirate get more idiots and then you've got some of the muscle car forums that are just overrun with people who have a internet connection and no idea what they're talking about. For that quality of conversation one might as well go sit on a bench outside Walmart on a Friday afternoon.

I'm ok with every other mechanically inclined person who owns a 300 not being on here. I don't think aftermarket support for this engine will ever improve, it's 20 years out of production and doesn't easily fit in cars.

Ha ha yeah, didn't mean to take things off topic, what i was trying to say is the kind of people with the greatest knowledge base about this engine aren't exactly the type of folks that post on forums.

case in point that DOHC headed 300 in a slingshot dragster that popped up a few months back. Just some guys doing it in their garage (i would guess a pretty nice garage) not putting pictures on the internet.

I guess in this day and age where you can youtube something like 'cabin air filter replacement 2001 honda civic' and get a how to video in three seconds, its fun having to dig a little deeper to get info about this engine.

That said, i'm sure glad this website is here!!

I see the C is back and available for purchase at Summit.

To my surprise I found a less expensive source for the new C manifold. I spoke to an authorized distributor of Offy at an auto swap meet. Through him I can get one for $250, but for $15 more I'll go the Summit route for the warranty.

I figured Clifford was out of business. I haven't had to buy any performance 300 parts in over 10 years, but I tried buying stuff from Clifford and the parts never came. Between this site and craigslist I would imagine it wouldn't be to hard to find a decent used intake.

Clifford is still in business. If you're buying new, and make an order it will ship. I called Larry and checked 2 days ago. Of course it's best to see if they're in stock before making an order.
