Ekonokrate MPG figures......

Post #1 by mutt » Tue Oct 04, 2016 5:33 pm

Huh! I thought id never get back on- computer glitches & such. Its been a while! So: on my latests run from Toronto to Montana, in my '80 Ekonocrate, i did more MPG recording. So: with a corrected speedo- when i put the 3.80 limited slip in, i took note on a hundred mile marker a bunch of years ago: 107 miles. So, in the 300 set up thus: Chev rockers, cam straight up, Autolite 2150 2 Bbl off a 390 truck... 1.20 bore, a 2Hg power valve, head milled .025, (MUST have more CR!) FI ex manifolds 2-1 thru a empty cat, cherry bomb, 2.25 pipe, 7.50/15 skinny tall 8 ply truck tires, 4 sp. w/ OD stick. .....
50-60 MPH, 87 oct, no methanol, i beat 20 mpg a few times.... several tanks 18 plus, 17. Sustained 75 plus- 14.5 MPG. It falls off THAT fast.
I get it oiled every year, the Toronto salt hasn't eaten it yet. But theres no parts models in the junk yards.
Years since i did the hop up w/ the help of this Board; its been smooth sailing since.

as the speed goes up, you can see the vacuum drop..... wind resistance goes up in a steep arc above 55, and you can see it play out on the vac. gauge....

 Great MPG! Even the 14.5 is good for higher speed brick driving...

Those numbers are impressive, especially for a box on wheels.
