I have 2 blocks sitting on my shop floor. If nobody else answers in a few days I'll have the best look I can when I'm there next.

The teeth on the cam look a small bit worn to me but it's hard to tell, or is this a picture you got from elsewhere... I'd roll it over a little at a time and make sure it's good.

There is a 5/16" diameter vertical hole in the lifter gallery about 3/8" back from the gallery cover that gravity feeds oil to the cam gear.
The hole in the distributor bore is angled upward and tees into that same oil supply hole.
If the hole from the oil gallery is blocked it will also cause wear on the cam gear as well as damage to the distributor.

Just checked bare block, approx .125" hole leading to the 5/16 that Pmuller9 just posted. Another thing to look at is different length oil pump drive rods and the different depth on the bottom of the distributor where the drive rod goes into it. We have had to shorten them before when we changed distributors.

This is a pic my son sent me over a year ago.....of the engine in question.....I was unable to look at it because of time and distance...... he took it to a shade tree mechanic who tells him the oil galley feed the distributor is blocked.... not that familiar with the 300 but I know my 200 and 302 are splash oiled..was wondering if the circled hole in the pic was just an opening into the crank case to access splashed oil or pressurized oil from the galley........schematic of the 300 oil system does not show that opening....oiling the distributor or gear......mechanic tells him he may have to pull the engine to unclog the oil feed to the distributor. .......does not sound right to me......last distributor lasted about 16 months...

Just remove the lifter gallery side cover and run a 5/16 drill bit down the hole towards the cam gear.
Then run a Q tip with solvent up the distributor hole till it hits the 5/16 hole. The small distributor hole is 1.25" long.
