C4 Bellhousing / Starter ?

Post #1 by old28racer » Wed Dec 20, 2017 12:10 am

I am going to mount a 1971 - 80 C4 pan fill bellhousing to my 300 motor. It will have a 164 tooth flexplate. The starter pattern is two bolt Does this setup take a Long or Short nose starter? Is the long nose for automatic & short nose for manual?

Yes the starter nose is about 3/8 longer. Just get one for automatic transmission they are all the longer nose.

wallen7 -- thanks, I thought that I had it correct, just wanted to make sure.

Also will a 164 tooth flexplate for a sbf 289 motor bolt on to the 300 crankshaft and is it the same bolt pattern?
Do you have to install a block spacer between flexplate & block?

Ment to add that I know the flexplate must be -0- balance.

Yes it is the same bolt pattern, you will have to rebalance after removing weight. I have seen them installed without the plate , but I would not advise that.

wallen7 --- I will install the correct block plate. I have an old race buddy that owns a transmission shop and should be able to set me up with a neutral 164 flexplate and block plate to go with a 71-80 C4 pan fill bellhousing. Thanks for the help.
