240 68cc head question

Post #1 by old28racer » Mon May 21, 2018 11:24 pm

My buddy has a 240 68cc kidney bean chamber with the large "A" next to the valve spring. He was pulling it apart to hot tank and he said it has a sensor (1 or more) in the intake port. I have no picture at this time showing the sensor. Any one know what they are for and are they screw in so they can be removed & plugged?

The only possible holes would be in the exhaust ports and were for the air injection from the smog pump.
There are plugs available to plug any hole there might be in the head ports.

pmuller9 -- That is what I thought, that they were in exhaust port not intake. I also thought they were for smog lines but was unsure if 240 heads were made for smog pump pluming. Are all 240 heads set up with the threaded holes for smog?

No. Smog stuff hit in the late 60s and California required smog equipment before other states.

pmuller9 --- Ya I found an thread that said 65-74 240 heads came with or without smog holes in exhaust ports.

What is the thread size where the tubes thread in? One 240 thread said they where 9/16-18 NF thread, is this correct?

I thought they would be a tube size? I want to plug all 6 holes?

Does anyone have a picture of a 240 head with the smog tube in the exhaust port. Is there a tube adapter screwed into the threaded hole in the head? What size plug or bolt can be used to seal the 6 holes?
