Intake change - now with pic

Post #1 by GPGoverMPG » Sun Jul 15, 2018 9:36 am

I was running a 2100 carb on a 2v adapter that I made an adapter to mount the 2100 to. Worked much better than stock 1v. Had a spare intake so modified it into a 2v intake and it is way better. The plugs show good color and it pulls nice. Thinking I'm under carb'ed. The engine did pick up a strange sound at cruise RPM, kind of a rattle noise, thinking timing may be an issue. My exhaust system is also way to big for this motor. Still trying to get this dialed in and looking for ideas. Will not let me post photo says board quota has been reached. So I used a saws-all, and it does, to the cut the 1v opening down then ground the opening enough to fit two 1,5" tubes in with the carb mounting plate attached. I also welded a wedge on the bottom of the intake to direct the airflow both directions. not pretty but seems to work great.

My setup is a 2150 carb w/1.21 venturis using a TransDapt 2065 adapter on an Offy C intake with Headman header, 2" pipes and Flowmaster mufflers.
Runs great, sounds sweet.

Try resizing images smaller. I use 800 x 600, seems to work, and avoids the 'quota reached' warning.

So here's a picture at last. Resized it about 4 times. Not something I had to do before.

That's pretty neat. I'm curious why you chose that route over a different manifold?

For the question about rattling, you need to check both the timing and the air/fuel ratio AT the RPM AND vacuum the noise is occurring. You could quite possibly be cruising much leaner now with the settings on this carb, which could be leading to some pinging.

I had the manifold so why not. It really does run better seat of the pants feel. Thinking it may be to much vacuum advance my cruise RPM is right at 2200 which would be all mechanical on top of my initial and an unknown amount of vacuum advance. I may try increasing jet size even though the plugs look good.
