Engine vibration on high mi. engine

Post #1 by jzjames » Thu Jan 24, 2019 11:52 am

Orig. engine in a 67 truck, I’ve been milking it along for quite a few years. Doesn’t burn any oil.
Last few months there’s a vibration under power, goes away with foot off the pedal- I checked the timing, driveshaft, U-joints, vacuum advance.

Looking at the harmonic balancer with engine idling, it does look like there is a wobble to it,
Question; would a hi mileage engine develop a crankshaft wobble bad enough to cause a bad engine vibration?

My friend says if that were true it would cause oil to be spewing out of the bearings.

There is an elastomer ring between the harmonic balancer hub and outer ring that can go bad but that would give you vibrations all the time.
Does the engine vibrate in neutral when you rev it?

Could a motor mount be bad? Have you checked the tension of the v-belt(s)?

X2 on a motor mount. Or something contacting the frame or body when you load the drivetrain.
Or a misfire/skip under load
