89 4.9 cam timing

Post #1 by kubotaorange76 » Thu Mar 28, 2019 7:12 am

I will be pulling and re-gasketing my 89 4.9 over the next week.

Will be doing melling steel/alum timing gears. Which direction do i put the 987g mr gasket cam advance key (driver or passenger looking at front of motor)? Does it go on crank or cam? Thanks

The key goes on the camshaft with the offset to the driver's side looking at the front view.

Are you sure about that. I thought advancing cam would mean the cam would be "turned clockwise" meaning events would be advanced of cam gear. I may be wrong. Thanks steve

Steve
The cam in 300 six is gear driven and turns counterclockwise

running good

took two weekends, ended up finding a bunch of sludge, pulled down to short block, and back together, cleaned up of course.

i figured what better way to break it in after putting it back together
